Round 5 Preview – Headed to Historic Mid Ohio
Posted to News by jakethompson on Jun.17, 2010
The TDI Cup circus lands in central Ohio this weekend at one of America’s most famous racing circuits. The Mid Ohio Sportscar Course hosted some classic battles during the heyday of the Champcar Series, as well as being the longtime home of the SCCA runoffs, and this weekend it will feature the Grand-Am series along with Round 5 of the TDI Cup. The fast, but technical 2.2 mile layout, is a rollercoaster ride as the track constantly heads up and over crests, while forcing drivers to contend with 6 corners all linking together at the bottom part of the circuit. Throw in the long downhill straightaway as a prime passing area, and the fact that the walls are never far away, and you are guaranteed an exciting weekend. Check out an onboard lap of Mid Ohio, with the Patron ALMS prototype of Scott Sharp here.
For me, Ill be looking to carry some momentum from the win in Utah 2 weeks ago, while at the same time bouncing back from a poor showing at Mid Ohio last year. As the season reaches the mid way point everyone starts thinking Championship, but I think right now I just need to focus one race at a time, and try to do the best job possible each time I get in the car. This weekend will also be another opportunity to raise some money for Right To Play. After adding 20 bonus laps to the pledge total with the win last time out, I would love to replicate that again this weekend. To find out more about Racing for the Right To Play, click here.
